Call for Chapbooks

What have you been creating with words and other objects during the pandemic?

In celebration of the many ways poets have found to continue creating new work this year, the Queens College Library invites contributions to a digital chapbook exhibit, scheduled to launch in Spring 2021 as part of the rescheduled CUNY Chapbook Festival.

What to contribute

Anything that thinks it might be a chapbook. It can be filled with words or drawings. It can be bound in a physical format, with pages and a cover, or not. It can be a series of coded poems that every reader experiences differently. It can be a website. It can be a PDF. It must be something created after January 1, 2020.

How to contribute

For websites or chapbooks that can be accessed online, send a link and a brief description of the project and its creation to Leila Walker at [email protected].

For chapbooks that exist in digital form but cannot be accessed online, upload the entire project to a Google folder and set the permissions of the folder to allow anyone with the link to view. Then send the link and a brief description of the project and its creation to Leila Walker at [email protected]. (If you’re not sure how to create a Google folder or change the permissions, email Leila for help.)

For chapbooks that exist in physical form, take photos of the entire object (including covers, spine, and all pages, if the object resembles a traditional book). High resolution is nice but not always possible. Upload these photos to a Google folder and set the permissions of the folder to allow anyone with the link to view. Then send the link and a brief description of the project and its creation to Leila Walker at [email protected]. (If you’re not sure how to create a Google folder or change the permissions, email Leila for help.)

Timeline

Send materials on or before December 15, 2020. The selection committee will respond with decisions by February 1, 2021. The first volume of the exhibit will launch publicly in the third week of February, 2021. After the first round of selections, work will be considered on a rolling basis for the March and April volumes until March 15.

Check the Chapbook Festival website for tips on creating chapbooks in a variety of formats over the coming months. Don’t go there now, though. We haven’t posted anything yet.
